Visual Cultures Symposium: Unthinking Television is a small website for George Mason’s academic conference. The theme for this coming year (2009) is the multiple uses and interpretation of modern television. As technology has advanced, the notion of television has expanded to encompass other devices such as cell phones, personal digital assistants, to computers.
Designing this project was enjoyable because the project manager gave me full control over the concept and layout. First, I spent some time establishing a logo. It needed to be clean and not overbearing.
Next I turned my attention to information architecture and hierarchy. There were a few important links that called for art and paper submissions which I felt needed more attention. I decided to pull the links and make them buttons; thereby making them easier for the viewer to notice and click.
The colors of the site were brightened, contrasting it from the pervious design that was dark and mysterious. A clean typographical hierarchy was incorporated and a gallery viewer was implemented to add dynamic movement to the website.
